Fun with photography

Halloween last year, me and two friends decided to play around with makeup and have a little photoshoot in stead of doing  the usual trick-or-treat/costume party.

Great fun playing around with my new camera, and I finally had the time to edit one of the photos.
I am actually quite a noob when it comes to photography, but I do know a lot about photoshop *magic* and that’s what saved me on this one.

Below  is the original photo, before editing

Visual Profile Westerfadder

Me and my classmate Guro Waagene were given the task to design the visual profile for our “Fadderuke”–which is basically the first week of school with lots of parties, fun, and social activities to welcome the new students.
We made posters, a web-page, flyers, and beerbongs.
We did this on quite a short amount of time, and considering this we are really happy about the result!

This summer I went on a roadtrip with two friends (Andreas Kallstad and Saman Alam) around Norway!
We did some urban exploration on our trip, and made a blog about it!
Here are some pictures, and visit  to see more

Finally got some time to sketch/draw again ^^

I always had a huge facination for animals and insects as a child. This is siomething I seem to have gradually forgotten.
This weekend I wendt to the Natural History Museum in Oslo with a friend and my cousin, and I really felt inspired afterwards!
I’ll probably draw more animals in the future, and go to more museums!
Sharing some photos with you here

We had a two-week project about pictogrammes. Our task was to make a web flip-book/flyer for a food delivery company, focusing on “Happy food”. This is made in collaboration with Fredrik Stabbenfelt. Fun project!

here is our interactive flash-folder

Packaging Chindogu

We had to make packaging for our chindogu. I wanted the packaging to be something you can use for several purposes, and not just throw away. I wanted to make a shoebag for my Pompettes that works like a undercover drinking kit.
I redesigned an old hairdryer-bag I found at a flea market. This is the original bag:

After a lot of spraypaiting, cutting, sewing and painting, I qwas py about it.  I also made a few extra thing to put in the bag, a book with two hidden shots, and two small boxes for painkillers. The only thing I mi9ss is a label or something (might add that later).

We also had to edit our photos in Photoshop, and show a before and after editing picture. Here it is:

Post-it challenge!

Our class was asked if we were interested in representing Norway in a big, nordic, post-it competition.
I, and 15 of my classmates, said yes. Our task was to cover a 3x6m wall with post-its/sticky notes in 3 hours, and use the new colour palette.
This took place at an event at Sandvika shopping mall.
Our idea was based on the saying “memory of a goldfish”, and our motiv is a “daddy”-fish that uses post-its too remember his kids’ names.

We competed against Sweden, Denmark and Finland.
We WON! 😀

Playing with shapes

The past two weeks we had classes with Stefan Ellmer. He is a typographer from Switzerland.
He asked us to experiment and explore shapes in typoraphy. Then we were asked to make our own typeface, based on a few shapes.
Here are some of my sketches and results.

I also made a process booklet, if you want to see more. you an find it here :

Tattoo Design

Between schoolwork, work and social life, I’m often working on tattoo-designs for people.
This is something I really enjoy doing, as it is a great honor that people want my art-work on their skin permanently, and I still have a dream about becoming a tattooist one day. Good practise, and a way to earn a little extra money.

The poster is dead!

Big Ben & classmates

This week we went on a schooltrip to England.
Spent some great days in London and had a project with students from Kingston University. We were asked to reinvent the dying poster, working in groups, and show the result at an exhibition at the end of the week.
My group felt that the reason the poster is dying is because there are so many of them, they almost kill each other. We wanted a poster that stood out, was never the same and made people stop and look at it. We used photochromic pigment in the ink, which would only show when exposed to direct sunlight . In the dark or indoors the text would be invisible= the poster dies.

How it works

We screen printed our design onto our poster, and took it out and photographed it in daylight, dusk and night showing the stages of its transformation.

Singles awareness day

Yep, that is today.. For all the people out there that don’t have a valentine to celebrate the 14th with.
I made a valentine’s card for my friend and room-mate Maiken this year.
She works as a Dj, and loves music.

Happy Valentines Day!

And here are some heartwarming couple-photos for you to enjoy 🙂

My new invention

This week we had to choose a final “chindogu” product (see earlier posts).

Then we had to make a moodboard, a construction drawing and a poster of it in illustrator.  I have chosen to work with an idea I call drinking-flask-shoes. Hollow platform shoes you can use to smuggle alcohol into bars and clubs, or to hide that you are drinking. Just go to the ladies room, and have a shot from your heel!

Rock and Roll

So, this is the latest drawings from my sketchbook, Pencils and black ink ballpen.

My love for typography is still growing!

From my sketchbook

Took a photo of the drawing, vectorized and colored it in Illustrator. I’m getting very comfortable with Illustrator too, but I still have a lot to learn!

That’s what he told me..

Chindogu Idea sketches

This week we had to present some of out ideas for the “Impossible object” project. Yeah, some rally stupid ideas there, but they1re supposed to be.

Here are my sketches:

Quick drawing class

This week we had two days with illustrator Egil Nyhus as our guest teacher. He draws mainly caricature drawings and illustrations for a newspaper, and also for childrens books.

In our class he focused on sketching, and how to make things as simple and easy to understand as possible.

I really enjoyed having him a s a techer, he has great energy, and jumped and goofed around all the time.

Christmas presents of the year!

Haha, this is hillarious! We have a new assignment in school. We have to come up with a ” chindogu “, in short it is a ingenious everyday gadget that seem like an ideal solution to a particular problem, but really are quite useless.

We are going to make the shindogu, make a user-manual, package design, full identity (logo etc.), slogans and a stand where we present it.

Here are some examples!

Her er noen screenshots:

Now we have finished another layout assignment, we worked in pairs for this one.

We had to go outside, take pictures and look for grids. Then we had to use the grid from one or more of our pictures, and make a product (magazine, folder, web-site, book), based on the same grid. We could choose whatever theme we wanted.  We chose to make a fictive dub-step artist, and we wanted to play with the clichees that follows to such music.we were told to be creative, and try to think different with layout and grid.

Click the images to see slideshow!  this is the picture and grids we chose, the finished product pages and some examples with grid.

We thought that the opposite og a grid must be circles, therefore we made a circle-grid. We wanted the web site to have a “spinning” layout. When you click the arrows on the pages, the whole page will spin in the drection of the arrows to the next newscase or image.

My partner on this project was Nicklas Haslestad

Vi måtte lage forsiden + to spreads. All denne klippingen og limingen tok overraskende lang tid!

This week we started to learn old english calligraphy with ink and old nib pens. It takes a lot of time and consentration, but it is fun, and we learn alot of all the letters, spacing, kerning and typography at the same time.

After hours of working it is important to move around and stretch out from time to time to avoid neck, back or wrist problems. As you can see we really enjoy doing this!

Time will show!

Her er filmen vår:

What do you think? 🙂

Dvaske fiskeboller svømmer i molefunkent vann

Gebrekkelige knehaser skriker luftig.
Noen dvaske fiskeboller svømmer i mollefonkent badevann.

A new week!

Yesterday we had someone over talking about science and creativity.

Did some “tests” to check how creative we are, and worked in groups.

It was interesting, but a bit too much theory between the activities, and it was hard to concentrate and not doodle in my sketch-book.

Today we met at “Samfunssalen”. It felt good to be somewhere new, and we got free coffe/hot chocolate all day – luxury! 😀

Learned about:

  • the creative brain,
  • what makes people more creative, and what stops creativity,.
  • creative energy, and what increases it.
  • how is a “typical” creative person, (this was interesting, the typical creative person is kindof twofaced, smart and naive, social and a loner, Calm and stressed, masculine and feminine, dreaming and rational etc.)
  • flyt,
  • and a new creative method – SPIN.
We also tested the Spin method in groups, creating ideas around different types of chocolate, we got:

A lot to go through in one day, but it was very interesting, my group was fun, and time passed quickly!

Scandic Hotel project

So, The students at my school were asked for a little help to decorate a new hotel,0%5D;lbl:bh379197_hotel%20scandic%20vulkan;cur:EUR;sort:0_desc;frm:1;&cur=NOK&gclid=COaZ9Zrl4asCFYTwzAodETPwPg&label=bh379197_hotel+scandic+vulkan .

They want designs for curtains in the rooms, and for a 4×5 m wall in their bar. I think it sounds fun, and I’ll try to make some curtain designs for them.

Lately my love for typography has grown to new heights, and therefore I chose to work with that. Illustrator is quite new to me too, so this is a great way to learn more!

My idea is to take quotes from different famous hit-songs  through the decades and put them all over the curtains. “Curtains to sing to” or get flashbacks/memories from.

Here’s the first quote,

(I made a poster of it just for fun)

The Buried life

The Buried Life is a reality documentary series. The series features four guys attempting to complete a list of “100 things to do before you die”. They do everything from helping deliver a baby and ask out the girl of their dreams to play basketball with Barack Obama or join a party at the playboy mansion.

It’s very inspiring, you should watch it! NOW! 😀

A sunny friday!

Yesterday we had lectures in critical thinking and research, and worked with our “akerseleva”-project.

What we were supposed to learn about today:

  • Research 2
  • Design by narrative
  • Kvalitativ metode
What I actually remember:
  • Mr. Lee’s story

Han er søt da ^^

  • latin – Qualitas = Quality, species, sort.
So far I really enjoy studying at Westerdals. It’s a bit chaotic at times, but I really like the teachers and students, espechially my class 😉

We had a long lunch break today in the sun, ate pizza an really good chicken roll in a park 🙂

And after school half the class enjoyed a glass of beer/wine at Blå. A really nice day!

New project

Yesterday we got a lot of info from Oslo museums about Akerselva’s history, and why it is such an important part of Oslo’s history.

They have made a test-app, and we walked around and tested it.

Today we worked in groups to find out how to make the younger crowd interested in history and museums. We came up with some pretty good ideas 😀

Have also been thinking about our magazine-design, searching for inspiration and french graphic designers.

P.S. I looove living in Oslo! always something happening, something to do and someone to hang out with 🙂 And I’m really happy about my new flat!
